About the Artist

Leah Southard - Biography

Growing up Leah spent many hours out in nature.  Her vacations were spent camping and visiting National Parks along with many other beautiful natural areas.  It was during these camping trips that her love of nature and wildlife began.  She had always loved animals, but during these vacations her father, a photographer, not only taught her how to take their pictures but instilled in her a deep respect for them and their environment.

As an adult while working full time and raising a family she earned a degree in illustration.  The passing of her mother had a profound effect on her changing her outlook on life.  She left illustration to paint the animals she has always loved and continued to study taking workshops with well-known wildlife artists.

Today she and her husband, also a photographer, travel North America finding inspiration in the wildlife and scenery they want to photograph.  She uses these references along with field sketches to paint her experiences.  Her desire is to share the beauty of nature and the animals that inhabit it hoping her paintings will inspire pleasure in others and promote a willingness to protect our remaining species and their habitats before they are gone forever.
